Gardens of Birmingham Wellbeing Month: Winterbourne House & Garden

Unmasking || Remapping: Winterbourne Gardens Emotional Mapping Audioguide with Lee Mackenzie

Taking the form of a guided walk through the grounds, and drawing from archival maps and garden plans, Birmingham-based artist Lee Mackenzie has created a map onto which you are invited to plot your emotional and sensory response to the place. Creating a visual response to the location. This audio-guide aims to highlight the multitude of ways that different people experience the same space.

The audio-guide draws on Lee’s practice of poetry mapping – a celebration of, and reconnection to, place. Lee encourages visitors to rediscover a sense of wonder and meaning within places by facilitating slow engagement with environments. His work uses a playful, poetic style, challenging us to form counter-narratives to the ordinary, revealing the spectacular in the mundane.

What to Expect:

Pre booking is required, and limited tickets are available. Your ticket will be valid on Saturday 28 September only. Your ticket will grant you general admission to Winterbourne House & Garden, as well as access to the audio guide.

This is a self-guided audio tour, meaning you will not be accompanied around the garden by a member of staff – this is a pre-recorded audio-guide. You will be required to bring your own smart phone with access to the internet, and your own headphones.

On arrival, the member of staff on reception will give you a QR code to access the audio-guide, as well as a printed copy of the flat-pack map. You are then free to wander the garden with your audio guide.

This event is part of the ‘Gardens of Birmingham’ wellbeing month.
